Stat Line of the Night — 3/26/2013 — Nikolai Khabibulin
Prior to the start of the lockout-shortened 2012-13 NHL season, Sports Illustrated ranked the Edmonton Oilers as the top team in the Western Conference, and the third-best team in the entire league, behind the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers. But with two-thirds of the season in the books, the Oilers once again find themselves on the outside of the Western Conference playoff picture, looking in.
One member of their team that they can’t blame for their lack of success is 40-year-old goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, who entered the game with a 2-3-1 record, despite a solid 2.27 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. And he improved upon those numbers with a shutout performance against the St. Louis Blues, as Khabibulin stopped all 43 shots he faced during the Oilers’ 3-0 victory at the Scottrade Center.
With the shutout, Khabibulin improves his record to 3-3-1, while lowering his GAA and raising his save percentage to 1.93 and .941, respectively. And he also earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
