Stat Line of the Night — 4/1/2013 — Clayton Kershaw
Clayton Kershaw entered the 2013 MLB season as a favorite to win the National League Cy Young Award, but after his performance on Opening Day against the San Francisco Giants, he may have his sights set on NL MVP honors as well.
The Dodgers’ ace was dominant on the mound against the defending World Series Champions, allowing only four hits while striking out seven during a complete-game shutout performance. But what was even more impressive about Kershaw’s first start of the season was the fact that he also provided the game-winning run for himself, via a solo home run that kicked off a four-run eighth inning for the Dodgers.
It was Kershaw’s first career home run, and in addition to helping the Dodgers earn the 4-0 victory, it also earns the 25-year-old lefty the “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, April 1, 2013.
