Stat Line of the Night — 4/7/2013 — Will Middlebrooks
The Boston Red Sox can expect to see R.A. Dickey often throughout the 2013 MLB season after the reigning N.L. Cy Young Award winner was traded from the New York Mets to the Toronto Blue Jays during the offseason. But if their first meeting at the Rogers Centre yesterday afternoon is any indication, that may not be such a bad thing for the Sox and their third baseman, Will Middlebrooks.
While Dickey’s knuckleball has made many batters look silly throughout the past year, it was Middlebrooks who was making the knuckleballer look silly on this occasion, as he took the Jays’ ace deep in the first and fifth innings, and added a double in the second. He would go on to add another home run in the seventh inning off David Bush, finishing the game with three home runs, four RBIs and four runs while going 4-for-5 at the plate during Boston’s lopsided 13-0 victory.
With the win, the Red Sox improve to 4-2 on the season, while dropping the new-look Blue Jays to 2-4. As for Middlebrooks, he finishes the series with four homers against the Jays, and his trio of long-balls on Sunday earn him “The Stat Line of the Night” for April 7, 2013.
