Is This Behind-the-Back Save by AHL Goalie Drew MacIntyre the Save of the Year?
“The Hangover: Stanley Cup Edition” Starring Kings Players and NHL on TSN Crew (Video)
Winning the Stanley Cup is great. It’s every hockey player’s ultimate dream. However, after a team takes home the chalice, they usually have to deal with what is known as the “Cup Hangover.”
You see, to win the Cup, your team has to play somewhere between two weeks and two months longer than other teams. Then, when it’s all over, you have the parties and victory parades, a summer of media appearances, and of course, your private time spent with Lord Stanley’s Cup.
For these reasons, the team that won the Cup often comes out fairly flat to start the next season. It happened to the Blackhawks in 2011 and the Bruins in 2012.
However, it didn’t really happen to the Kings in 2013. Sure, the playoffs haven’t even started yet, but the Kings looked pretty sharp this year and they seem poised to make another deep run.
With that in mind, the people who produce TSN’s hockey coverage decided to mark the opening of the 2013 NHL Playoffs by doing a little spoof on The Hangover. It features the Canadian broadcasters and several members of the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings—most notably, Anze Kopitar, who it turns out is a much better hockey player than actor.
Have a look, and note how much broadcaster James Duthie looks like Ed Helms:
So do the Kings really know the cure for the Stanley Cup Hangover? We’ll find out tonight when they take on the Blues in Game 1 at 8PM ET.
