Stat Line of the Night — 4/30/2013 — Alexander Steen
Stat Line of the Night — 5/1/2013 — Jordan Zimmerman
Shutting down the Atlanta Braves’ potent line-up is no easy task, but don’t tell that to Washington Nationals pitcher, Jordan Zimmermann. He was able to do just that during last night’s game at Turner Field, and he actually made it look quite easy.
Zimmermann would allow a single in the first inning and a double in the third, but other than those two hits, the Nats’ righty was flawless, striking out eight batters and not allowing a single walk over the course of eight innings of work. He would eventually hand the ball over to closer Rafael Soriano, who worked a perfect ninth and sealed the deal on Washington’s 2-0 victory.
With the win, Zimmermann improves his record to 5-1, tying him with the Cards’ Lance Lynn for the most wins among all National League pitchers. He also lowered his ERA to 1.64 (fourth in the NL) and his WHIP to 0.75 (first in the NL). And he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
