Stat Line of the Night — 5/6/2013 — Andrelton Simmons
The Atlanta Braves have plenty of big names and big bats in their line-up, but on Monday night in Cincinnati, it was one of their lesser known players that was carrying the offense.
Batting in the eighth spot of the Braves’ line-up, shortstop Andrelton Simmons stepped up to the plate four times, and two of those at bats resulted in home runs. His first was a solo shot off Bronson Arroyo in the second inning, and he would add another two-run shot off Logan Ondrusek in the eighth inning. The 23-year-old from Holland would finish the game going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs during the Braves’ 7-4 victory over the Reds.
Last night’s performance gives Simmons a total of four homers and 15 RBIs on the season. His average is still a mediocre .252, but he got the job done at the plate on this occasion, and it earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, May 6, 2013.
