Serbian Soccer Referee Headbutts Player, Gets Arrested (Video)
Remember the good old days when it was just soccer fans who were batsh*t insane? Back then, if somebody got viciously attacked on a soccer field, whether it be a player or a referee, you knew some lunatic fan was to blame.
Today, that’s not the case. When you hear about some crazy attack at a soccer game, it could have been a fan attacking a player or referee, but it could also have been a player attacking a fan or a referee attacking a player. Pretty much anything goes these days.
So what do we have for you today? How about a ref attacking a player.
It comes to us from a Serbian futsal (i.e. indoor soccer) league game between Ekonomac and Marbo. Toward the end of the first half, something caused a stoppage of play, and whatever it was upset Ekonomac keeper Miodrag Aksentijevic. However, as he and referee Sasa Stefanovic approached each other, the latter apparently decided that he was not going to be intimidated. So he decided to just headbutt the guy.
Take a look:
Now obviously, referees can’t just go around headbutting players. That’s not cool, and anyone who does it should be suspended, fined, or fired. That being said, the headbutt didn’t look particularly vicious. As you probably noticed, the keeper’s reaction was a bit delayed, which suggests he hammed it up a bit. So do you really think the ref should have been arrested for assault? Because according to reports, he was arrested for assault.
