Stat Line of the Night — 5/28/2013 — Hyun-Jin Ryu
During the offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers spent over $25-million just to have the opportunity to negotiate a contract with Korean pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, before eventually signing him to a 6-year, $36-million deal. That may seem like a lot of money for an unproven player, but two months into the 2013 MLB season, Ryu is actually proving to be quite the steal.
Entering last night’s game, the 26-year-old lefty was sporting a 5-2 record and a 3.30 ERA, and those numbers would only get better following his complete game, two-hit shutout performance against the Angels. In addition to allowing only two hits and no runs, Ryu would also surrender zero walks while striking out seven during the Dodgers’ 3-0 victory over their in-state rivals.
With the win, Ryu improves his record to 6-2 while dropping his ERA to a solid 2.89. And he also earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, May 28, 2013.
