Alessandro Nesta Channels His Inner Zinedine Zidane, Headbutts Opponent (Video)
In 2006, when France’s Zinedine Zidane headbutted Italy’s Marco Materazzi during injury time of the World Cup Final, Alessandro Nesta was a member of the Italian team that would eventually go on to win the game, and the title, in a penalty shootout. Sure, Nesta didn’t play in the final after sustaining an injury in the final group stage match of the tournament, but he was still a member of that team, so he knows what it’s like to be on the good side of a red card for headbutting an opponent.
And now, he knows what it’s like to be on the bad side.
During Saturday’s MLS contest between the Montreal Impact and Sporting KC, Nesta went to the ground following a tough challenge from on Sporting player. And while on the pitch, he felt as though SKC’s Claudio Bieler attempted to stomp on his hand, so he reacted a lot like Zidane did when Materazzi insulted his sister—he headbutted him.
Check it out:
Despite Nesta’s red card, the Impact were still able to hold on for the 2-1 victory, improving their record to a league-best, 8-2-2.
