This Day In Sports History (June 4th) — Detroit Red Wings
Check Out This Rugby Fight Between Paul Gallen and Nate Myles (Video)
The Queensland Maroons have dominated their annual State of Origin rugby series against the New South Wales Blues, having won each series since 2006. But 2013 is shaping up to be an entirely different story compared to what’s unraveled in recent years.
The Blues got off to a great start by winning the first match of the State of Origin best-of-five series on Wednesday, 14-6. And in addition to getting the better of their opponents on the scoreboard, they were also able to get the better of them with their fists.
You see, for the past couple of years, the Blues felt as though they had been bullied around by several Maroons players, including prop Nate Myles. And after watching Myles deliver a few questionable headbutts earlier in the game, NSW captain Paul Gallen decided that he and his team were not going to take it anymore, so he fought back against his larger opponent, connecting on a few solid punches to Myles’ face.
Check it out:
After all of this, Gallen was penalized and put on report for a high tackle, and after the game he was also hit with a grade two striking charge by the match review committee, meaning he could miss a maximum of two games. Luckily, none of those games will include the second game of the State of Origin series, which is set to take place on June 26 in Brisbane. Needless to say, that match should be interesting.
