Stat Line of the Night — 6/9/2013 — Ryan Zimmerman
After making the post-season and winning just their second division title in franchise history one year earlier, the Washington Nationals entered the 2013 MLB season with the highest of expectations. However, they have failed to live up to those expectations thus far, as they entered Sunday’s action two games under .500 and eight games back of the AL East-leading Atlanta Braves. But not everything in the nation’s capital has been a disappointment this season.
Heading into Sunday, Nats pitcher Ryan Zimmerman was an impressive 8-3 on the season with a solid 2.16 ERA. And he would improve upon those number with his seven innings of shutout ball against the Minnesota Twins, as he allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out eight during the Nats’ 7-0 victory.
Following that performance, Zimmerman now boasts an N.L. best 0.89 WHIP, while his nine victories tie him with two others for tops in the N.L. and his 2.00 ERA is good enough for fourth among National League pitchers. And to top things off, he also earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, June 9, 2013.
