Justin Rose won the 2013 U.S. Open yesterday, becoming the first Brit to do so in over 40 years. However, it was a player who finished tied for 59th that gave us the highlight of the tournament.
That player was Shawn Stefani. Not a whole lot went right this weekend for the 31-year-old Texas native who currently sits 113th on the 2013 PGA Tour money list. However, he did make the cut at one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world, and he did drain a hole-in-one on the 213-yard par three 17th.
Now, hitting a hole-in-one during a major tournament is always a big deal. However, on this particular course it was even bigger. You see, Merion Golf Club was particularly tough on the world’s best golfers this weekend, with the winner finishing at +1 and the runners up at +3. More importantly, because the course is so challenging, no one had ever hit a hole-in-one when the U.S. Open was held there.
So that makes the shot you’re about to see even more special.
Talk about a memorable golf shot. That really is one for the ages.
Hats off to Shawn Stefani.
