Stat Line of the Night — 6/19/2013 — Chris Davis
Is there anyone who can slow down the Baltimore Orioles’ Chris Davis? At the moment, the answer to that question appears to be an emphatic “NO!”
While everyone has been talking about how Miguel Cabrera seems to be destined to win his second consecutive AL Triple Crown, they might not want to count out Davis just yet. Heading into yesterday’s game against Miggy’s Tigers, the Orioles’ first baseman led the American League in home runs with 24, and he sat in second place—behind Cabrera— in batting average (.332) and RBIs (61). And he was able to close the gap in each of those categories, while cushioning his lead in the home run department, thanks to a 3-for-5 night at the plate that included two homers and five RBIs during the Orioles’ 13-3 victory.
Davis is now batting .337 with 26 home runs and 66 RBIs on the season. He should continue to give Cabrera a run for his money in the Triple Crown race, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, June 19, 2013.
