Stat Line of the Night — 7/22/2013 — Matt Moore
The Boston Red Sox have dominated the Tampa Bay Rays this season, having won nine of the twelve meetings between these two teams heading into last night’s contest. But the Rays have been on a roll of their own as of late, as they entered the week with wins in five straight and a 17-2 record in their last 19. As for the Rays’ starting pitcher for the evening, Matt Moore, he too had a five-game winning streak intact, and both he and his team would successfully extend their respective streaks to six thanks in large part to his performance on the mound against the Sox.
Moore was dominant throughout the evening, recording his first complete-game shutout of the season while allowing just two hits and one walk on 109 pitches. He would also add four strikeouts to his impressive stat line, as the Rays emerged with the 2-0 victory over their division rivals.
With the win, the Rays move just a half-game back of the Red Sox for top spot in the AL East. As for Moore, he improves his record to 14-3 on the season, while also earning himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, July 22, 2013.
