Stat Line of the Night — 7/29/2013 — Yoenis Cespedes
Yoenis Cespedes may have impressed everyone with his display of power en route to winning the 2013 MLB Home Run Derby, but he entered last night’s contest against the Toronto Blue Jays without a homer in his last 25 games.
It has been quite the power-outage for the 27-year-old left fielder, but he snapped out of it in a big way with a 3-for-5 night at the dish, which included a solo home run and a two-run triple. He would finish the game with three RBIs and two runs scored during the Athletics’ 9-4 victory.
The victory is Oakland’s fourth in a row and it keeps them six games ahead of the Texas Rangers for top spot in the AL West. It’s been a surprisingly successful season for the A’s thus far, especially when you consider the fact that Cespedes is batting just .232 for the season. Perhaps this is the type of performance he needs to help him turn things around, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, July 29, 2013.
