New Zealand rugby players could teach our North American athletes a thing or two about celebrating a championship.
Here guys just walk around yelling “whoooooo” and dropping f-bombs right after they win. Then they go to the locker room, put on a pair of goggles, and spray each other with light beer while Pitbull blares on the stereo. It’s embarrassing.
Down there, however, the whole team lines up and performs an ancient Maori warrior dance and chant that’s fearsome enough to scare the piss out of you even though you know damn well they’re not actually Maori warriors. Probably.
That’s what the New Zealand All Blacks did after they won the Rugby World Cup in 2011, and that’s what the Hamilton, New Zealand-based Chiefs did recently when they won their second consecutive Super Rugby championship against the Brumbies, 27-22.
