Stat Line of the Night — 8/7/2013 — Matt Harvey
Matt Harvey has been one of the lone bright spots for the New York Mets this season, as he was named the starting pitcher for the National League during the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field, and he entered last night’s contest with an 8-3 record and a 2.21 ERA. However, there was still one feat that Harvey had been unable to accomplish, not only during this season, but throughout his entire Major League career.
Prior to Wednesday’s contest against the Colorado Rockies, Harvey had yet to record a complete-game shutout in any of his 32 career starts. But that all changed, as the 24-year-old righty went the distance against the Rockies, allowing just four hits and no walks against while striking out six during the Mets’ 5-0 victory.
With a 9-3 record to go along with a 2.09 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP, Matt Harvey is clearly in the thick of things when it comes to NL Cy Young honors. But for now, he’ll have to settle with a much less publicized honor, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, August 7, 2013.
