Stat Line of the Night — 8/11/2013 — Steven Strasburg
One year after putting together a 15-6 record on the mound, wins have not been easy to come by for Washington Nationals starting pitcher Steven Strasburg. Despite posting a solid 3.01 ERA through his first 22 starts of the season, the 25-year-old righty was the not-so-proud owner of a 5-9 record. He entered Sunday in search of his first victory since July 7, and he would get it after putting together what was easily his best performance of the season, and perhaps the best performance of his entire career.
Taking on the Philadelphia Phillies, Strasburg was able to come away not only with the victory, but he would also record his first career complete-game shutout, as he allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out 10 during the Nationals’ 6-0 victory.
With the win, Strasburg improves to 6-9 on the season with a 2.83 ERA. He clearly isn’t getting the run support from his teammates, so more performance like this one may be necessary if he hopes to earn more wins. But for now, he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, August 11, 2013.
