Stat Line of the Night — 8/11/2013 — Steven Strasburg
Stat Line of the Night — 8/12/2013 — Yu Darvish
On April 2nd of this season, Yu Darvish was one out away from pitching a perfect game against the Houston Astros before giving up a single to Marwin Gonzalez with two outs in the ninth. On August 12th of this season, it was nearly déjà vu all over again.
During an afternoon game against the Astros yesterday, Darvish was once again on the verge of recording his first career perfect game, as he entered the eighth inning without allowing a single baserunner. However, his perfect game bid would come to an end after Carlos Corporan took the Rangers’ ace deep to right with one out in the inning. Darvish would go on to finish the eighth inning before handing the ball over to Joe Nathan, who put the finishing touches on a 2-1 Rangers victory.
Darvish would finish with 15 strikeouts while earning his 12th win of the season. And while he may not have come away with the perfect game, he does come away with “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, August 12, 2013.
