Antonio Smith Is in Hot Water with the NFL After Attacking Richie Incognito with His Helmet (GIF)
You’re in big trouble, Antonio Smith.
According to Fox Sports, their very own NFL Insider Jay Glazer “has obtained exclusive video”* of an extremely dangerous and flagrant foul. During Saturday night’s preseason game between the Dolphins and Texans, the Houston defensive end got into a little skirmish with Miami offensive lineman Richie Incognito (Dick Incognito to his friends) that started with Incognito grabbing Smith’s face mask and ended with Smith pulling Incognito’s helmet off his head and swinging it at him.
Doesn’t sound like a big deal to you? Well, just take a look at the GIF. It looks like Smith comes within a few inches of cracking Incognito right on the skull with the helmet…which probably would have hurt.
If you want to see the beginning of the tussle, you can do so at Fox Football Daily. However, you don’t need to see the footage to understand that the NFL is definitely going to suspend Smith for this. The only question is how long.
ESPN is reporting that the NFL will announce a two game suspension for Smith today, but given the fact that these two already have a history, it should (but probably won’t) be longer so as to extend into the regular season. Last season Smith was fined $21,000 for kicking Incognito after he claims the Dolphins lineman twisted his ankle on purpose.
*And by that they mean somebody saw the play on TV, recorded it on their phone, and sent it to them. Glazer didn’t have to stake anybody out or steal any microfilm, or anything like that.
