Stat Line of the Night — 8/20/2013 — Justin Morneau
Beating the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers has not been an easy feat to accomplish for most MLB teams this season, but last night the Twins’ Justin Morneau did just that pretty much all by himself.
The 32-year-old first baseman from Canada stepped to the plate five times on Tuesday and he came away with four hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth, and a two-run double in the fifth. He would go on to finish the game with four RBIs and a run scored, as the Twins emerged with a 6-3 victory over their division foes.
Following that performance, Morneau is now batting just .267 with 15 homers and 72 RBIs in 2013. It hasn’t been a season to remember for him or his Twinkie teammates, but he can forget about those struggles for at least one night, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
