Stat Line of the Night — 9/3/2013 — Homer Bailey
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds are currently sitting comfortably in the first and second wild card spots in the National League, but both teams are also in a battle to catch the Pittsburgh Pirates for top spot in the NL Central. Last night it was the Reds who inched closer to the Pirates—at the expense of the Cards— thanks in large part to Homer Bailey‘s performance on the mound.
Bailey stymied the Cards batters to the tune of two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts over seven shutout innings, and the Reds bullpen took care of the rest, as Cincy escaped with the 1-0 victory.
With the win, the Reds now find themselves just 1.5 games back of the Cardinals and 3.5 games behind the Pirates for top spot in the NL Central. As for Bailey, he improves to 10-10 on the season, while earning himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
