Ravens’ All-Pro Punt Returner Jacoby Jones Gets Injured by His Own Teammate (GIF)
If you wanted to pick one single play to sum up the Ravens’ embarrassing season-opening loss at the hands of Peyton Manning and the Broncos last night, I think it’s safe to say the Jacoby Jones injury would be it.
Now, normally an injury is just a freak occurance and not a symbol of a team’s folly. But not in this case. Here it is a symbol of the Ravens’ folly, because Jacoby Jones was knocked out of the game by his own teammate.
Jones, of course, is the Ravens’ #2 receiver and perhaps the NFL’s best punt returner. With the Ravens up 7-0 at the start of the second quarter, he signaled for a fair catch and was awaiting a Denver punt when rookie teammate Brynden Trawick plowed into him while trying to keep up with the Broncos player he was covering.
Result? Sprained knee.
At this point it’s hard to say how long Jones will be out, but you’d have to think it’ll be at least a week or two. And that’s not good news for the Ravens.
