High School Football Player Uses Head Like Battering Ram (Video)
On Sunday night, after the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Seattle Seahawks in a game that saw Ian Williams suffer a serious ankle injury on cut block, Patrick Willis vented about the sad state of hitting in the NFL.
“I feel like as a linebacker or a D-lineman, any cut, it’s a man sport—be a man,” he said. “Hit me up high. Hit like rams. You don’t see a ram going and cutting another ram’s legs. They hit head to head, pad to pad.”
Now, obviously Willis makes a very good point. It seems the art of hitting has been all but lost because no one is teaching kids how to do it from a very young age.
That being said, Willis’ choice of analogy? Not so great. The last thing you want is football players literally hitting each other like rams. In fact, as this clip from a recent high school football game shows, the problem might just be that some people are hitting like rams. Apparently it’s from Australia, but I have no idea what teams are involved. All I know is that somebody is not teaching these kids how to hit properly.
Take a look:
I don’t think the kid in blue was trying to be dangerous. I just think he’s an idiot who doesn’t know what the hell he is doing.
In any case, if you’re a coach, show this to all your players so they know what not to do.
