Stat Line of the Night — 9/25/2013 — Evan Longoria
Entering Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Rays were sitting atop the AL Wild Card standings, one game up on the Cleveland Indians and two games up on the Texas Rangers. And with both the Rangers and the Indians earning victories later that evening, the Rays would need a win against the Yankees in order to maintain their lead in the Wild Card race.
Tampa would get that much-needed victory thanks in large part to Evan Longoria, who went 3-for-5 at the dish with two homers and four RBIs. He would account for half of the Rays’ runs on the evening, as they cruised to the 8-3 victory.
In addition to keeping their spot atop the AL Wild Card standings, the Rays’ win also eliminated the Yankees from playoff contention. As for Longoria, he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
