Apparently Team USA has acquired their very own rally squirrel at the 2013 Presidents Cup at Muirfield in Ohio.

You remember the original rally squirrel, right? The one that ran in front of home plate at Busch Stadium during the 2011 NLDS between the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies, sparking the Cards’ run to a World Series championship?

Right. Well, that’s what Team USA is going for. Apparently team co-captain Davis Love III was feeding a friendly squirrel during a rain delay on Thursday. After that, the squirrel stuck around a bit, and since USA started winning hole after hole after hole, they decided to keep the squirrel and make him their mascot.

His name is Sammy. No joke.

Here’s DL3 (doesn’t have the same ring to it as RG3, does it?) cradling the squirrel in his lap while checking the Twitters.

And here is Love taking the squirrel out of his pocket (cue angry letter from PETA) and handing it off to Lindsey Vonn, who in turn sneaks up behind Tiger Woods and puts it on his back. Tiger was a little freaked out at first, but at least he did’t go all Christmas Vacation on the poor thing.

Keep up the good work, Sammy. You’re a true patriot.
