Stat Line of the Night — 10/3/2013 — Marc-Andre Fleury
After enduring a difficult 2012-13 season that saw him get benched in the playoffs in favor of Tomas Vokoun, Marc-Andre Fleury was looking to bounce back in a big way this season and regain the starting goaltending position in Pittsburgh. He got the nod in goal for the Pens’ home opener last night against the New Jersey Devils, and he looked a lot like the goaltender that led his team to a Stanley Cup championship back in 2009.
Fleury stopped all 27 shots he faced, including a game-high eight off the stick of Damien Brunner, as the Pens cruised to the 3-0 shutout victory.
With Vokoun recovering from blood clots and expected to miss most, if not all, of the season, the Pens will lean heavily on Fleury this season. One game in, it appears as though he’s up to the task, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, October 3, 2013.
