Stat Line of the Night — 10/8/2013 — Tomas Hertl

Tomas Hertl

San Jose Sharks rookie Tomas Hertl may be the most popular waiver wire pickup in fantasy hockey leagues today.  Unfortunately for you poolies out there, by the time you read this, he’ll probably already be picked up by someone else in your league who witnessed the 19-year-old’s performance last night against the New York Rangers.

Playing in just his third career NHL game, the 2012 first round pick became the youngest player in NHL history to record four goals in a single game.  But what is even more impressive than that stat is the fact that Hertl accomplished the feat with just over 11 minutes of ice time during the Sharks’ 9-2 trouncing of the Rangers.

Following that performance, Hertl now leads the NHL with a total of six goals and seven points just one week into the season.  It’s been quite the start to the young rookie’s career, and he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
