Stat Line of the Night — 10/9/2013 — Adam Wainwright
Last night in St. Louis, the NLDS between the Cards and the Pirates came down to a single game to see who would advance to play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. Luckily for the Cardinals, it was Adam Wainwright‘s turn to take the mound, and their ace didn’t disappoint.
After pitching seven innings of one-run ball during a victory over the Pirates in Game One of the series, Wainwright was even better in Game 5. With the season on the line, the 32-year-old righty pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits, one walk and just one run against while striking out six during the Cardinals’ 6-1 victory.
With the win, St. Louis will now host the Dodgers in Game One of the NLCS on Friday. After going the distance last night, we may not see Wainwright appear in that series until at least Game Three. But it’s his Game 5 performance that got them there, and it earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
