Tigers Celebrate ALDS Victory Like a New Zealand Rugby Team (Video + GIFs)

After the Tigers beat the Athletics 3-0 to advance to their third consecutive American League Championship Series, they raised a few eyebrows by celebrating on-field with a Maori Haka dance, a la the world champion New Zealand All Blacks rugby team. However, once they got off the field and into the locker room, the celebration was a little more traditional—by which I mean, obviously, that they sprayed each other with champagne for a good half hour.
Of course, it used to be the case that you only celebrated like this when you won the ultimate prize. But these days teams like to celebrate every single baby step along the way—making the playoffs, winning the Division Series, winning the League Championship Series, and so on. Before long, teams will be celebrating with champagne after winning every game. Then they’ll celebrate after every inning in which they don’t allow a run. Because, frankly, it’s getting kind of ridiculous.
But I digress. Point is, yes, the Tigers celebrated their ALDS victory over Oakland by dousing the visitors clubhouse at the O.co Coliseum with a couple case of Moët. And as usual, this gave us a couple of very amusing GIFs.
For example, there’s this one of Prince Fielder shooting his bubbly at the camera:
And there was this one of Torii Hunter making his “Oh that’s cold champagne” face:
And then, last but not least, there was this one that looks like…well, nevermind:
Good luck in the ALCS, Tigers. You’re going to need it.
