Stat Line of the Night — 10/16/2013 — Adrian Gonzalez
With their backs against the wall and their season on the line, the Los Angeles Dodgers came out swinging against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLCS. And no Dodger was swinging harder than first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
Batting in the clean-up spot of the Dodgers’ line-up, Gonzalez was doing plenty of “cleaning up,” as he belted two homers and added a single during his team’s 6-4 victory. Both of Gonzo’s homers were of the solo variety, but that doesn’t make his performance at the plate any less impressive, as he finished with three runs and two RBIs while going 3-for-4 at the dish.
With the win, the Dodgers live to fight another day. And doing the fighting on the mound for them in Game 6 will be NL Cy Young front-runner Clayton Kershaw. At the moment, you have to love their chances of forcing a seventh game. They’ve already managed to force a sixth thanks to Gonzalez, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, October 16, 2013.
