Stat Line of the Night — 10/17/2013 — Mike Napoli
The Boston Red Sox entered Thursday night’s game with the opportunity to take control of their American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers before heading back to Beantown for Game Six on Saturday. And they’d take full advantage of that opportunity, thanks in large part to the bat of Mike Napoli.
The Red Sox first baseman has been having plenty of success at the plate in Comerica Park during this series, and that success followed him into Game 5 on Thursday, as he went 3-for-4 at the dish with two runs and one RBI. He would finish just a triple away from the cycle, but what mattered most is that his Red Sox were able to emerge with a 4-3 victory.
As a result of that win, Boston will now return home for the final two games of the series with a 3-2 lead. They are in great position to advance to their first World Series since 2007 and much of that has to do with Napoli’s performance in Game 5, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, October 17, 2013.
