Packers Jermichael Finley Taken Off Field on a Stretcher, Currently in ICU After Neck Injury (GIF)
Football is all fun and games until someone breaks their neck.
For a while yesterday, Green Bay fans at Lambeau were enjoying the Packers’ game against the Browns. Heading into the 4th quarter, the home team was up 21-6 and on their way to first place in the NFC North. However, all the celebrating stopped with 10:31 to play in the game. That’s when tight end Jermichael Finley suffered a neck injury on a hit by Browns cornerback Tashaun Gipson and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
Gipson was flagged for a helmet-to-helmet hit on the play. However, as you’ll see in this GIF, there was no such contact. Finley is getting tackled from behind and, when he sees Gipson coming at him, Finley ducks his own head into Gipson’s shoulder.
Take a look:
Finley remained down on the field for several minutes and team medical staff removed his face mask before loading him on a stretcher—all of which obviously left the crowd a little subdued.
Fortunately, the Packers have since announce that Finley has full movement and feeling in all his extremities. However, he’s still in ICU and is set to undergo more tests.
We’re all praying that this terrifying moment was only a moment and not something far more tragic. Get well soon, Jermichael.
