Jared Allen Gives Us the Sack of the Year in the NFL (GIF)
Well, the New York Giants finally found a team that’s a bigger train wreck than they are. Last night they beat the Minnesota Vikings, who featured a newly-signed quarterback in Josh Freeman—a guy so good he got cut by the Buccaneers—and an Adrian Peterson who’s just not himself right now for obvious reasons. It was the Giants’ first win of the 2013 season.
Of course, it wasn’t exactly a blowout. Heading into the fourth quarter it was just 17-7. Good old Eli Manning didn’t throw any interceptions for the first time all season, but he didn’t exactly have his way with the Vikings’ defense, either. He threw for just 200 yards, and he got sacked twice.
Oh, and one of those sacks might just be the greatest sack you will ever see in your life.
I’m not saying it is the greatest sack you’ll ever see. I’m just saying it might be. It comes courtesy of Minnesota’s 4x All-Pro defensive end (and world class mullet enthusiast) Jared Allen. He reaches all the way around the offensive lineman with both arms to grab Eli and nearly bring him down—before a teammate comes in and finishes the job.
Take a look:
They counted that as half a sack, of course. But it really should count as a whole sack since Allen did all the work. And if it did, that would move Allen from 16th to a tie for 15th on the list of all-time sack leaders, with 121.5 career sacks.
