Juve’s Arturo Vidal Kicks the Turf, Falls, Tries to Blame it on Phantom Real Madrid Player (GIF)
During Juventus’s Champions League match against Real Madrid yesterday, Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal did something that pretty much every soccer player does all the time: he tripped all on his own, then tried to make like one of the opposing players had done it to draw a penalty kick.
Like I said, this happens all the time in soccer. The big difference here, though, is that there was not a single person anywhere near Vidal when he attempted to cross the ball, caught his cleat in the turf, turned up a huge divot, and fell to the ground. So when he started gesticulating emphatically after the fact, blaming it on a phantom Real Madrid player and pointing at the penalty spot? Yeah, it was just sad and pathetic.
Take a look:
Oh, and in case you were wondering, no, for once the referees were not fooled. No penalty shot was awarded, and the score remained 2-1 until the final whistled blew.
