Stat Line of the Night — 10/23/2013 — Jon Lester
The 2013 World Series kicked off last night in Boston, as the Red Sox hosted the St. Louis Cardinals for Game One of the Fall Classic. This contest featured two of baseball’s best starting pitchers in Adam Wainwright and Jon Lester, but only one would look like one of the game’s best.
That one was Lester, as he pitched 7.2 innings, allowing only five hits, one walk and no earned runs while striking out eight. He would hand things over to the bullpen in the eighth, and while they would blow the shutout and surrender a run, they were still able to close out the 8-1 victory for the Red Sox.
With the win, the Red Sox take the early 1-0 lead in this year’s Fall Classic. They still have a long way to go if they hope to claim their third World Series title since 2004, but Lester has them off to a good start, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, October 23, 2013.
