Stat Line of the Night — 10/28/2013 — Jon Lester

jon lester game 5 world series

Should the Boston Red Sox win the World Series, David Ortiz would have to be the obvious choice for World Series MVP.  As for Game 5’s winning pitcher, Jon Lester, you’d have to figure he would be a close second following last night’s performance.

Lester was on the mound when the Sox earned their first victory of the series in Game One, and he was helping them take a 3-2 series lead on Monday, pitching 7.2 innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out seven during Boston’s 3-1 victory.

With the win, the Red Sox now return to Fenway for Games 6 and 7, needing just one more win to wrap up the series.  Unfortunately for them, they won’t be able to rely on the services of Lester anymore, but he did help them get to this point.  And because of that, he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, October 28, 2013.
