Norris Cole Ankle-Breaker Shows Derrick Rose Still Has Some Rust to Kick Off (GIFs)
Last night’s basketball game in Miami was notable for a couple of reasons. For one thing, it marked the home opener for the two-time defending NBA champions, who received their bling prior to tipoff. More importantly for everyone who’s not a Miami Heat fan, last night marked the return of former NBA MVP Derrick Rose after missing all of last year while rehabbing a torn ACL.
So how did everything play out? Well, not quite how you’d expect. The Heat, a team that relies on “the Big Three,” used a balanced attack and got sizable contributions up and down the lineup. LeBron James was the leading scorer with just 17 points, and after that it was Chris Bosh with 16, then guys with 14, 13, 13, 11, 11, 6, and 6 points. That’s unusual.
Meanwhile, the Bulls were led by the stellar play of one player…and it was not D-Rose. It was C-Booze—which is to say, Carlos Boozer. The power forward had a game-high 31 points, while Rose had just 12.
So yeah, I guess you could say Rose was a bit rusty. And that’s probably why he broke his ankles on this innocent-looking crossover by Miami’s substitute point guard Norris Cole:
Ouch. Derrick made Cole look like Allen Iverson there.
Let’s hope he’s back at full speed soon. We need the Bulls to beat the Heat.
