Stat Line of the Night — 10/29/2013 — Phil Kessel
Nine games into the 2013-14 NHL season, Toronto Maple Leafs winger Phil Kessel had just two goals during what many were describing as a very slow start for the 26-year-old sniper. Just four games later, Kessel is sitting in third in the league with nine goals scored, and second in the league with a total of 18 points.
Kessel’s scoring surge began when he notched a hat-trick against the Anaheim Ducks on October 22nd, and it continued last night with a four point performance against the Edmonton Oilers. Kessel kicked off the scoring just over a minute into the game, and he would go on to add another goal and two assists during the Leafs’ 4-0 victory.
James Reimer probably deserves an honorable mention here for stopping all 43 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season, but it’s Kessel who was most impressive on this occasion, earning him the “Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, October 29, 2013.
