Ricky Rubio Made All Kinds of Highlight Reel Assists Last Night (GIFs)
Two years ago, Ricky Rubio arrived in Minnesota to great fanfare. Fans greeted him at the airport when he arrived in America in the summer of 2011. Then, in December of that year, he made his NBA debut, and the Timberwolves saw their first sellout crowd in five years. He was on his way to becoming a superstar and making his team a contender.
Then he tore his ACL in March of 2012, and all of that got put on hold. He missed the rest of that season and the start of the 2012-13 season. Sure, he returned last December, and at times last year he looked fantastic. But then Kevin Love got injured, and the T-Wolves never really got rolling.
This year, though—finally—Minnesota has the team they envisioned when Rubio (who is still just 23) signed with them. And while it’s too early to say they are contenders (or not), they are looking sharp.
Case in point: last night’s 124-95 throttling of the Cavaliers. Love had a game-high 33 points, Corey Brewer put up 27, and little Rubio had 16 to go along with a whopping 16 assists. Basically, the Spaniard put on a passing clinic.
Here he is with a sweet no-look dish to Dante Cunningham:
Here he is with a ridiculous side-spinning bounce pass to Nikola Pekovic:
And, best yet, here is Rubio nutmegging Jarrett Jack:
If you are an NBA free agent fan looking for a team to root for, you should consider the T-Wolves. They probably won’t win a championship this year (or next), but they’ll be crazy fun to watch.
