rgiii nutshot (robert griffin iii nutshot by aldon smith)

From time to time, you’ll come across a single moment from a game that manages to perfectly sum up the entire contest. Today, we have one of those for you. It’s from last night’s tilt between the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Redskins, and it’s pretty great.

However, it doesn’t just sum up this one game. It pretty much sums up the entire sophomore season of Robert Griffin III.

As you probably know, it was all 49ers last night. Colin Kaepernick threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns, while RGIII was just 17 for 27 with 127 yards, an interception, and zero touchdowns. Kaepernick’s passer rating was 134.5; Griffin’s was 58.7.

It’s been like this all year for RGIII. The guy has had three great games, three good ones, two okay ones, and now three terrible ones. Is Washington’s 3-8 record all his fault? Of course not. But he has certainly contributed his fair share of mediocrity.

So what’s the one single moment that sums up the entire game and season for RGIII? It’s this nutshot delivered (inadvertently) by the 49ers’ Aldon Smith:

That looks like it really hurt. Here’s hoping it gets better in year three, as it has for Cam Newton.
