ajax fan falls serious injured gruesome

Tuesday night should have been a pretty joyful one for the fanatical Ajax fans sitting in the “F-Side” of Amsterdam Arena. Their team defeated might Barcelona in Champions League group play, giving their team a shot at advancing to the knockout stage of the competition.

Unfortunately, the big win was in fact marred by a horrifying incident involving a fan in that section.

While celebrating the goal that made it 2-0 in favor of the home team toward the end of the first half, one unfortunate fan either lost his balance or got nudged by another rowdy supporter. He went over a railing and fell 15 or 20 feet to the concrete floor below, and judging from the gruesome images, he did not land feet first.

Here’s a video shot by a fan in the section that shows the aftermath of the fall, with fans looking on in horror and urging emergency medical personal to hurry:

Meanwhile, if you’d like to see a few more images taken by fans that give a better look at the aftermath of the fall, you can see them here and here. However, be warned that they are very unsettling.

Unfortunately, the English-speaking media is at the mercy of people who can translate the reports written in Dutch coming out of Amsterdam. However, as of 8:00AM ET today, word is this poor guy is not in fact dead, but in critical condition at a local hospital. Let’s all hope this story doesn’t get worse.

Be careful out there, sports fans.
