Claude Giroux Scores Ridiculous Backhanded Goal While Falling to the Ice (GIF)
The Philadelphia Flyers and captain Claude Giroux had a pretty crappy start to the 2013-14 NHL season. Through the first 15 games Giroux didn’t score a single goal, and the team went a miserable 4-11. Hell, coach Peter Laviolette got fired after just three games.
However, in the 16th game of the season, a 4-2 win over the Oilers, Giroux finally scored a goal. Then the Flyers rattled off five more wins in their next six games, and pretty soon they’d turned their season around.
As for Giroux, he’s now up to a respectable nine goals and 30 points. And while he’s not going to be winning the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy this year, last night against the Blue Jackets he scored the game-tying and game-winning goals, the latter of which might just be the goal of the year.
Watch as the guy roofs a wicked backhander past Curtis McElhinney at a ridiculous angle…while falling to the ice:
Oh, and I almost forgot—this game-winner also just so happened to be the 100th goal of Giroux’s career.
Do you think he’ll remember it?
