Eagles Cheerleader Rachel Washburn Does Two Tours of Duty in Afghanistan (Video)
It takes a lot of guts to be a cheerleader for an NFL team. You’ve got to deal with all the backstage drama and politicking. You’ve got to be able to handle sexist comments being shouted at you by drunken football fans. And you have to keep a probably-fake grin plastered to your face even if your team is losing by 48 points in the fourth quarter. But for all of that, it takes even more steely resolve to be a fighting member of the United States Army.
Not too many people are able to compare those two fields firsthand, however, with the exception of Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader Rachel Washburn, who recently completed two tours in Afghanistan and is now back in Philadelphia. At the Eagles’ recent home game against the Chicago Bears, Washburn was honored as a “Hometown Hero,” and now she’s getting a lot of buzz on the internet (maybe she can parlay this into a lucrative career as a firefighter or astronaut).
