Disgruntled Eagles Fan Spits in the Face of Saints Fan After Loss (Video)
On Friday, ESPN.com ran an article by Ashley Fox in which she persuasively defended Eagles fans. Yes, she admitted, they can be a bit drunk and disorderly and, consequently, prone to getting ejected and/or arrested. But they always have their team’s back. About 70,000 of them showed up for the Snow Bowl a few weeks ago, and unlike the Packers, Colts, and Bengals, the Eagles didn’t need any “extension” from the league to sell all their tickets and avoid a local TV blackout. Rather, they sold all their tickets to Saturday’s NFC Wild Card Game against the New Orleans Saints in about ten minutes.
Like I said, it was a persuasive argument. Philly fans: gruff, but loyal and kind of lovable.
Then, right on cue, an Eagles fan spit on a Saints fan after Philly lost to New Orleans on Saturday evening. And, well, pretty much all the redeeming stuff went right out the window.
A Saints fan named Nick Scelfo—who just so happens to play tight end for Division I FCS Nicholls State of Thibodaux, Louisiana—was at Lincoln Financial Field to watch his team play the Eagles on Saturday, and he had his camera rolling when the Saints kicked the game-winning field goal…and when an Eagles fan spit in his face because he was celebrating his team’s victory.
Take a look:
In case you were wondering, yes, a fight did break out after that and the cops did intervene. However, according to Scelfo, the cops let him go when he showed them this clip.
Now, you have to give credit where credit is due. Every other Eagles fan in the area just ignored Scelfo —who was not saying anything profane—and kept on walking. It was just the one d-bag who decided to spit in his face.
However, as they say, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch. So I guess Philly sports fans won’t be living down their reputation any time soon.
