Stat Line of the Night — 1/5/2014 — James Neal

With Canada set to name their men’s Olympic hockey roster on Tuesday, one of the biggest questions remaining is whether or not they’ll be taking James Neal to Sochi.  And if Steve Yzerman and company haven’t already made that decision, the Pens’ winger may have helped his cause with his performance during Sunday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Neal had failed to score a goal in the two games since he recorded a hat-trick and two assists against the Columbus Blue Jackets one week earlier, but he broke out of that mini-slump in a big way, recording two goals and an assists during the Pens’ 6-5 victory over the Jets.

With that, Neal now has 16 goals and 18 assists in 24 games this season.  Those numbers could earn him a spot on Team Canada, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, January 5, 2013.
