Stat Line of the Night — 1/5/2014 — James Neal
Stat Line of the Night — 1/6/2014 — John Tavares
Had Auburn held onto its 18-point lead during last night’s BCS National Championship Game against Florida State, we’d probably be talking about Tigers running back Tre Mason and his 237 total yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately for him and the rest of his Auburn teammates, they couldn’t hold onto their lead and ended up losing the game by a score of 34-31, so this “Stat Line of the Night” goes to John Tavares of the New York Islanders, who recorded a hat-trick and two assists during a 7-3 victory over the Dallas Stars.
It was a good night for Tavares and he should follow that up with an even better day today, when he will likely be named to the Canadian men’s Olympic hockey team. We’ll have to wait another hour or so for that announcement, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, January 6, 2014.
