dolphins interrupt surfing competition

I’ve seen sporting events get interrupted by all kinds of animals. I’ve seen games halted by squirrels, cows, seagulls, cats, foxes, and even European pine martens, which apparently are related to weasels and badgers. Until today, though, I had never seen a sporting event interrupted by dolphins.

The sporting event in question? A surfing competition, obviously. On Sunday at the Rincon Classic in Santa Barbara, California, a pod of about a dozen dolphins showed up and started showing off. They swam all over the contest area and even came within a few feet of some of the competitors. Locals said dolphins are common in the area, but they don’t usually come so close to humans.

There’s a first time for everything, though, right?

Take a look at the video:

Now go show that to your most gullible coworker and tell him or her they’re sharks.
