It was on this day in 1996 that Super Bowl XXX was held at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 to win their third Super Bowl in the past four years.

Cowboys’ cornerback Larry Brown was the unlikely hero of the game, as he intercepted two Neil O’Donnell’s passes. Brown returned the interceptions for a total of 77 yards and both would lead to Dallas touchdowns as Brown was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Cowboys’ running back Emmitt Smith scored two rushing touchdowns and the Cowboys’ other touchdown came on a pass from Troy Aikman to tight end Jay Novacek.

This game would mark the end of the Cowboys’ dynasty, as it would be 13 years before they won their next playoff game in 2009. However, the success the Cowboys had in that span of four years has only been duplicated by one other team; the New England Patriots, who won three Super Bowl’s over the course of four years in the early 2000’s.
