Stat Line of the Night — 1/29/2014 — Ben Scrivens
I was tempted to award this “Stat Line of the Night” to Kevin Durant (33 points, 7 rebounds, and five assists vs. the Heat), but it’s not every day an NHL goalie records a 59-save shutout.
More accurately, an NHL goalie had never recorded a 59-save shutout until last night, when Edmonton Oilers goaltender Ben Scrivens stopped all 59 shots he faced from the San Jose Sharks during a 3-0 victory.
Scrivens’ 59 saves were the most during a shutout performance by an NHL goalie, surpassing the previous record of 54 saves by Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith in April 2012. That makes the recently acquired Oilers netminder an easy choice for “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
